September 30th is a day specifically set aside for individuals to remember and honour the victims and survivors of residential schools. This includes children from New Brunswick First Nations who attended the Sussex Vale School, and the Shubenacadie Residential school. We also remember those who attended Indian Day Schools in the Province.

Land Acknowledgement Letter to Premier and Flemming
The Chiefs of Mi’gmawe’l Tplu’taqnn Inc. (MTI) were forwarded a copy of a memo dated October 14, 2021, from Minister Flemming to all Government of New Brunswick employees concerning a protocol on acknowledging ancestral territory. The contents of that memo are extremely concerning to us and represents a new low in our relationship with the Province.

MI’GMAQ CHIEFS DENOUNCE UNLAWFUL ACTS BY RCMP AND PROVINCE OF NEW BRUNSWICK
The leadership of Mi’gmawe’l Tplu’taqnn Incorporated (MTI) today denounced the unlawful acts of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Province of New Brunswick, who conducted an illegal raid on an authorized cannabis vendor at Eel River Bar First Nation. This raid was conducted without any notice to or authorization from Eel River Bar Chief and Council. The RCMP had, however, notified the media beforehand.

Mi’gmaq opposed to federal plan to dump mine waste into salmon-bearing stream
The Mi'gmag Chiefs represented by Mi’gmawe’l Tplu’taqnn are disappointed to learn that on June 22, 2019, the federal cabinet approved changes to the Metal Mining and Effluent Regulations that will allow the Sisson Mine to dump mine tailings in two fish-bearing streams in the Nashwaak watershed. The Mi’gmaq were only informed of this decision several weeks after the fact, on July 10th.
