Consultation on Behalf of the Mi'gmaq of New Brunswick
Mi’gmawe’l Tplu’taqnn Incorporated (MTI) leads consultation efforts on behalf of the Mi’gmaq First Nations of New Brunswick. Working under the direction of Chiefs and community leadership, MTI helps ensure that Mi’gmaq rights, title, interests, and Indigenous Knowledge are appropriately considered in project reviews, regulatory processes, and government decision-making.
Our role is to support meaningful engagement between proponents, governments, and Mi’gmaq communities when proposed activities may have the potential to impact Aboriginal and Treaty Rights. Through this work, we help ensure that consultation is conducted respectfully, transparently, and in accordance with the Crown’s legal obligations.

Duty to Consult and Accommodate
The Duty to Consult and, where appropriate, Accommodate is a legal obligation of the Crown that arises when the Crown has knowledge of potential or established Aboriginal or Treaty Rights and contemplates actions that may adversely affect those rights.
Consultation provides an opportunity for Mi’gmaq communities to review proposed projects and activities, identify potential impacts, share Indigenous Knowledge, and work toward solutions that avoid, minimize, or accommodate impacts on rights, lands, waters, and resources.
MTI supports this process by coordinating technical reviews, facilitating communication, and ensuring that community perspectives are brought forward throughout regulatory and environmental assessment processes.
