About the event
Mi'gmaq Led Fisheries Governance Community Session The MTI Fisheries department will be visiting our member communities this October to further discuss the future of Mi’gmaq-led fisheries governance. We will recap the research done so far, including feedback heard from various advisory committees and summits that have taken place over the past year.
MTI researchers need members’ input and discussion to ensure our work is as reflective of communities’ needs as possible! These engagement sessions will inform our ongoing governance research and directly influence the recommendations and next steps we will put forward to community leadership.
Discussion topics will include:
Decision making authority in a Mi’gmaq fisheries governance model
How do we ensure Indigenous knowledge & principles are at the forefront of this model?
Successful fishing while preserving our aquatic ecosystems
A dedicated Mi’gmaq fisheries committee–yes or no?
Keeping youth engaged to ensure a long-lived, successful governance model Additional Details: Lunch will be available.
