Lands and Conservation

Meet the team
The primary goal of the Lands and Conservation Department is to protect, steward, and strengthen Mi’gmaq relationships with the lands and waters of Mi’gma’gi through Indigenous-led conservation, planning, and governance. Guided by Mi’gmaq knowledge, values, and responsibilities, the department works to ensure that future generations can continue to learn from, live with, and care for the land.
The Lands and Conservation Department at Mi’gmawe’l Tplu’taqnn Incorporated is dedicated to advancing Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCAs), stewardship initiatives, and land-based conservation efforts across Mi’gma’gi. The department works collaboratively with Mi’gmaq communities, leadership, knowledge holders, and partners to support land acquisition, stewardship planning, and the development of future Guardianship initiatives.
Through community engagement, strategic conservation efforts, and a deep respect for Mi’gmaq rights and responsibilities, the department strives to protect culturally and ecologically significant areas while strengthening Mi’gmaq stewardship for generations to come.
